The nanomachine serum that brought K.A. back in the first place isn't done with her (though she didn't exactly help matters with the new armor). She's lost so much, physically, emotionally, and existentially....

The spreading nanomachines through K.A.'s body were foreshadowed early on;

Optimizing herself for her new armor is now something she'll regret;

The cat on the stump is Sibyn, owned by Voidchild creator and friend of the comic David Lindholm;

And there's a new page of the prequel series Hammered Down on my Patreon! If you like what you see, please support here;

Interesting how back on page 43, K.A. said "It's not like there's much left of me to lose."
...Yet it seems like she's been losing more and more since then.

Wouldn't the process continue no matter where she was? That's not a reason to stay where she is.

"Protecting the cats" is a better reason.

She's speaking figuratively as well, since her time trying to get the Wyrecats back together has caused her to get badly beaten and humiliated, take several lives on the battlefield, and witness friends die only to find out she was being tricked all along to sell a larger scheme. It's understandable that she thinks following that course would only cause her more pain when she's already in a profound amount of suffering.

She's suffering a pain I would imagine people with dementia feel, which is the inability to stop the loss of your own identity but being forced to see it happen. Poor KA :(

An especially cute and adorable cat adorning the background of this update. =)

Presuming there were no consequences was probably their worst decision. Still, doing what you feel is right at the moment is part of the human condition.

Yikes! That last panel was a shocker, Neil.
Well done.
