Author Notes:
30th Jun 2016, 2:40 AM

K.A. has a severe case of club feet, a congenital defect involving a twisting of the feet. Before she and her friends created their Wyrecat armors, K.A. used orthopedic footwear to get around, which was still a clumsy, painful, and conspicuous way to get around. With her Caracal armor and its nanosynaptic interface, her mobility is enhanced well beyond normal. K.A. still made a point of moving on her own feet, as a means of retaining the humility she felt a good hero needed.

I'm not sure about including character and world details in these author notes; on the one hand, it gives me a chance to share details that wouldn't normally be seen in the story without derailing it. On the other hand, it does feel like telling instead of showing things that ideally are conveyed organically in art and dialogue. What do you all think, WyreKitties?

Oh, and today is #WyreCatWednesday ; this will be the main update day, for the alliteration.

I feel like everything you said in the author comment was either communicated in the actual page or would eventually be shown in the comic itself.

You could always do "backmatter" (even though the term doesn't really apply on the 'net?) of the sort Moore did in Watchmen in between chapters to communicate some of this stuff. That was the thinking behind doing the shorts in EverydayAbnormal and that worked pretty well for me.

Honestly, it's too early say if the pace is good, since there are so few pages, but there's nothing wrong with it that I can see so far. One thing strikes me as odd, though. If she was in a coma for five years (unless the doctor is screwing with her), why is her armor still around? Or is there some nanotech reason why she can summon it from hammerspace? I'm sure there's a reason, I'm just curious.

Yet another mystery to be revealed (this one relatively soon)...

I like the prose pieces with non-sequential images that you did with Ruby to give the extras. I also like Zomburai's idea of doing something like Moore did with excerpts from news papers and Under the Hood. But, I think you could just as easily let it unfold for us with the story. Then again, it is a webcomic and the author notes section is a good place to slip things in. I say let it ride in the story for now.

Thanks. I feel like I did too much in terms of "back material" with Ruby Nation, where the text pieces became literally part of the narrative instead of additional. Trying to dial it back here, so approaching with more caution.

This is literally the worst doctor. Not only does she inadvertantly spring this earth-shattering news on a newly awoken coma patient, she keeps the (I assume) destructive and active super suit next to her bed. This can only go well.

Who's to say she was the one who put K.A.'s armor there?

19th Jun 2019, 9:10 PM

Perhaps it was K.A. Senior?
You know, like leaving a favorite stuffed animal by her bed. Only this time it's a superpowered suit of armor.
If nothing else, it'll help her get around better.

"I've wasted five years already! Time for action!"

I love this page!

I love how the characters have disabilites!! It just makes it all that more amazing when you see what they can do

Wyrecats 0-6: Best Foot Forward

1.) K.A. leaps up from her bed, while Dr. Cree gets in front of her to ease her distress.

DR. CREE: Ms. Percival, please calm down! I know it's a shock, but rushing off won't do you any good;

2.) We get a close-up of K.A.'s bare feet, which are proportionally tiny and twisted inwards due to her congenital club foot.

DR. CREE: Especially not on those club feet of yours!

3.) Dr. Cree leans over to K.A. as she hyperventilates.

DR. CREE: Just take a minute and breathe...

K.A.: No...

4.) K.A. yells a voice command at a silver and blue package, which disassembles into pieces of armor and floats in unison towards her.

5.) K.A. closes her eyes and spreads her arms as the pieces of armor float towards her, pulling in towards precise parts of her body thanks to communication with her intravenous nanomachines.

6.) K.A.'s armor fully covers her, and upon assembly unleashes a flash of light that illuminates the room while Dr. Cree stands to the side, amazed.

DR. CREE (under her breath): Wow!
